Mosconi Cup Day One Line Up 2017

The 2017 Mosconi Cup gets underway tonight (7pm UK time) in Las Vegas.

The USA are now captained by former Team Europe winning captain Johan Ruijsink and the Dutchman has picked what looks to be a very strong side on paper.

Player of the year (in my opinion) Jayson Shaw finishes up day one against Shane van Boening which will be one of the best singles match ups in the whole competition.

Team Europe also have a young debutant in 20-year-old German Joshua Filler who has been performing brilliantly on the Eurotour and fully deserves his inclusion. He gets a baptism of fire though against Dennis Hatch, a man that knows how to work what will be a home crowd.

The full Mosconi Cup day one line up is as follows:

  1. Team USA v Team Europe
  2. Skyler Woodward & Billy Thorpe v Jayson Shaw & David Alcaide
  3. Dennis Hatch v Joshua Filler
  4. Shane van Boening & Oscar Domniguez v Ralf Souquet & Nick van den Berg
  5. Shane van Boening v Jayson Shaw

It is quite an inexperienced Team USA with only 17 previous Mosconi Cup appearances between them before this year and 21-year-old Billy Thorpe making his debut.

Team Europe on the other hand have Ralf Souquet with 17 appearances and Nick van den Berg with 9 but other then those two stalwarts the rest of the team are either making a debut or a second ever appearance.

Some great matches can be seen live on Sky Sports in the UK and on ESPN3 in the USA. In addition there will be live streaming via the Mosconi Cup facebook page.

The team that starts strongest wins in my opinion and Europe have dominated for the last few years and even with Johan Ruijsink switching allegiances I still believe that Marcus Chamat's side have enough between them to lift the Mosconi Cup.
