Austrian Albin Ouschan Wins World 9 Ball Championships in Qatar
25-year-old Austrian Albin Ouschan lifted the WPA World 9-Ball Pool Championships yesterday in Doha, Qatar.
The final against the USA's Shane Van Boening was in front of a 400 strong crowd at the Al-Arabi Sports Club.
Ouschan who was competing in his second final in three years destroyed the American by 13 racks to 6 in what was a very one sided final.
Ouschan's game have developed dramatically over the last few seasons, he reached the final in this same venue in 2014 and lost to Niels Feijen but bounced back last season by winning the ever-tough China Open. This led to a successful spot in the European Mosconi Cup team, something that is likely to be emulated this December off the back of this win.
For Van Boening it was his second final in a row out in Doha and losing two on the bounce will be a bitter pill to swallow as he saw Ko Pin Yi win the crown last year.
Van Boening is often one of the most consistent players on the world stage and will no doubt be involved in the year ending Mosconi Cup for Team USA. He will also be a very motivated and tough opponent as we head towards the three other major events remaining in the season, The China Open, US Open and Kuwait Open all carry huge prize funds and will be on the radar of all the top players including Shane.
In the semi-finals Van Boening defeated the reigning US Open Champin in Cheng of China 11-9, on the TV table Ouschan made short work of former champion Alex Pagaluyan beating him 11-4 to reach the final.
