Further Shocks at Betway UK Championships

As we head towards the last 16 tomorrow it has already been a tournament of a number of shocks this last week in York.

A number of seeded players have already fallen, Ding Junhui, Ali Carter and Anthony Hamilton all fell in the first round in a tournament that is now a completely flat draw.

Into round two and it was reigning champion Mark Selby who was the biggest name to fall in losing 6-3 to Scott Donaldson.

This whittled the tournament down to the Last 32 players, half of the matches completed yesterday and the other eight matches to be completed today.

It was the turn of Neil Robertson yesterday, the Australian a former UK champion lost to Mark Joyce 6-5 despite having had two centuries and a further three breaks over 70 in the 11 frame match.

Joyce won a tense decider with an under pressure 42 clearance to step into round 4 tomorrow where he will now face Lyu Haotian.

The defeat will mean that Robertson will now miss out on the Masters in January after slipping to number 17 in the World.

Other results saw Judd Trump lose 6-2 to a resurgent Graeme Dott and the aforementioned Lyu Haotian beat Marco Fu 6-4.

There are some big name players still left in the tournament, all of whom play today. Ronnie O'Sullivan plays against Michael White, Shaun Murphy faces Jimmy Robertson and John Higgins will play new Chinese sensation Yan Bingtao.
