2015 Charity Snooker Bets Challenge in Association with SnookerBacker.com
January 09, 2015 12:39
For the last couple of years I have wanted to have some sort of Charity Challenge that runs throughout the year, there are a lot of these type of events that you can piggy back onto but I wanted it to be different, relevant to the industry and also a bit fun.
So with all that in mind I can now announce our 2015 Charity Snooker Bets Challenge.
Each month Billiards Boutique will put £25 into a betting account (we are using Paddy Power), and SnookerBacker.com, who has agreed to help me with the betting side of things, will provide us with a few words of wisdom and his recommended bet for the month (bet frequency may increase depending which events are on the calendar).
Obviously the idea is to raise as much for charity as possible by the end of the UK Championships in December 2015. As betting is not a guaranteed science, and we do have a chance that we could lose money, I will be guaranteeing a £300 donation regardless of the outcome in December split between our two nominated charities.
The first of these, chosen by snookerbacker, is Freshfield Animal Rescue, the charity has two centre’s one in Liverpool and the other in North Wales.
The second charity is going to be Island Community Action, this is a community charity that is based in the same place as us, the beautiful (except today) Isle of Portland in Dorset, I am passionate about local projects and firmly believe we should try our best to look after those around us and in our own local communities. I hope that whatever donation I make in December will go a long way to support local people.
On With the Challenge
This is what snookerbacker said with regards to the first bet of the year, “It’s the curtain raiser at Ally Pally on Sunday and usually the opening day of The Masters produces its fair share of drama. World Champion Mark Selby has a sound Masters pedigree and he’s up against Shaun Murphy on Sunday afternoon. Shaun has been feeling unwell this week and had to withdraw from the Championship League, but you’d assume that he’ll be back fighting fit and bang up for this encounter.
A look at their head to head record shows just how closely matched these two are. From 33 matches, Selby has won 16 and Murphy 15, with two draws. In terms of frames won it’s just as close, with Selby leading 117 to 115. These two old friends and rivals are as close as any other two players that I can think of in this regard.
All this makes for what should be a cracking opener and you have to fancy that it will be close. Selby hasn’t yet really got going this season but is a big occasion player and Murphy is in very solid form. Paddy Power are 11/10 on the winning margin being under 2.5 frames, this has to be the bet. This means that if the match finishes 6-4 or 6-5 either way you will collect.”
SnookerBacker Recommended Bet: Mark Selby v Shaun Murphy £25 on the winning margin being under 2.5 frames at Paddy Power.
So doing as snookerbacker told me I have now placed this £25 bet and await the result over the weekend. If successful I may place another bet for £10 on snookerbackers advice later in the week.
Every month I will write a small piece to keep you updated with how the challenge is progressing and this will contain next months recommended bet as well. If you have what you think is a superb bet then you can tweet @snookerbacker and let him know. For now lets keep all of our fingers crossed for the first bet as I think it would be amazing to get close to £1000 donation at the end of the year, no pressure snookerbacker!
UPDATE 15-1-15: The first bet came in and earned us £27.20 for our two chosen charities, we are going to place the four £5 free bets we received over the next couple of days.
