North Cyprus Eurotour Underway in Kyrenia

Mark Gray Eurotour Number 1

The Eurotour returns this week (it started this morning) with the North Cyprus Open from Kyrenia.

Mark Gray, pictured above, will be looking to continue his excellent form in Europe and retain his number one ranking spot. On this occasion though, in the sunshine of the Mediterranean, Gray will be battling it but with 139 other competitors looking to lift the trophy, pick up the Mosconi Cup ranking points and the 3500 euro first prize.

The other members of Europe's top five are also in attendance with Niels Feijen of Holland, Albin Ouschan of Austria, Petri Makkonen of Finland and the German legend Ralf Souquet all vying for the top spot.

Alongside the European elite there are also players from as far away as Iran, Sudan, United Arab Emirates, Lebanon and Thailand all in contention for the prize money.

With Billiards Boutique being based in Britain we always look out for the British players in the draw and along with Mark Gray, Jayson Shaw, Daryl Peach, Imran Majid, David Hopkin and Pat Holtz are all over in North Cyprus to pick up key ranking points in the race for a Mosconi Cup spot.

As I alluded to earlier the matches are already underway and the Eurotour always has a bit of a gruelling schedule to whittle the field down and complete the tournament in 3 days.

Saturday is when we get to the business end of the tournament as we are left with 32 players in a single elimination format and they play down to a winner on that day.

The Eurotour didn't visit North Cyprus last season and on the corresponding dates it was the German Open that featured in 2015. The last winner in Kyrenia was in fact Ralf Souquet but in 2014 the British contingent faired very well with Karl Boyes the runner-up and a further six UK based players reaching the knockout stages. It would be nice to see a repeat this year but perhaps with a British winner!

If you are interested in all of the players involved then you can see the full participant list here this can also be filtered by nation.

There is a live stream provided by Kozoom which is of very high quality but is PPV, find it here.
